Knowing the challenges of any potential building site should be known before the design process begins. Both Architect/Designer and the Builder should view the potential property to identify any challenges that can arise during construction. Knowing these challenges early will help avoid costly delays and cost overruns.

How long does it take to build a new home?

Building a new home can take anywhere from 6 months to one year before breaking ground and typically one year to build. It varies on the size of the job, who’s involved, and any planning and permit obtainment that needs to be done.

Generally, for a custom home, you should be cautious. Expect it to take two years—one for planning, one for construction—so you don’t rush it.

Should I build a new home or renovate my current home?

That will depend on your needs, wants, and budget. Sometimes, all you need is a remodeled kitchen and a new home addition to make your house feel like a dream home. But other times, you may have loftier aspirations (and a loftier budget) that necessitate a home built from the ground up.

You should consider building a new home after consulting a contractor to see if it’s within your budget. If your current home is old or in ruin, it may not be worth renovating.

Can I visit the construction site during construction?

Yes! Before visiting, please book an appointment so your builder can escort you safely. The construction site is a work zone and can be dangerous, so we strongly advise you to follow the builder’s safety instructions.

Do you help with site selection?

Yes! Cragg Built Properties Ltd is happy to help with site selection to ensure our clients get the right plot of land to suit their needs. With our years in the industry, we offer helpful advice and guidance so you can feel confident in your purchase. We have had clients that want specific things in their dream house but, their lot didn't allow for their aspirations due to municipal restrictions or the nature of the lot.

Should I buy land before or after I speak with my home builder?

We always recommend buying land after you speak with a home builder to ensure it’s ready for development. But if you’ve already purchased land, don’t worry: We can still help you develop it.

What do I need to know about my blueprints?

Your blueprints are what will get you a detailed, accurate estimate for the construction of your new home. At Cragg Built Properties Ltd, we provide thorough blueprint consultations, so you know how to read them and understand the design of your home.
